Age groups

Age Groups:

These are our youngest Saints - for kids from 5 to 12 years old. Through play, and we teach the game of rugby in a progressive way.

U6 - Rugby tots play time - this group plays tag and other fun games, with a rugby ball in hand of course.  Boys and girls turning 5 and 6 years old, run around with coaches and parents and make new friends.  Usually the younger siblings of the older players, this group plays at jamborees too!  So you can bring the whole family!

U8 - Non contact/Tag Rugby - mixed teams of boys and girls turning 7 and 8 years old, children are taught games that mimic some basic rugby skills, and good sportsmanship is always the basic theme. Running, passing the ball, obstacle courses - lots of fun!

U10 - Non contact/Tag Rugby - mixed team of boys and girls turning 9 and 10 years old, these kids are taught correct body positioning, some tactics on the field, basic ball handling skills and progress towards contact by learning to scrummage and line out.  Team building is key at this level, and all kids get to participate.

U12 - Intro to contact - boys teams and girls teams turning 11 and 12 years old.  This group learns to tackle and learns to fall correctly, practices ball handling skills, learns safe basic body positioning in rugby. The rules are modified so the kids play rugby at a moderate pace.  There 7 players on the half field at a time.  7s rugby will be at the 2016 Olympics!!!

Teams for teens - 13 to 18 years old: Boys U14, U16, U18 and Girls U15 & U18.

Full contact junior laws of rugby are taught and played by both boys and girls teams.  These are the bantam, midget and juvenile high school players.  They will learn field positioning, and tactical skills, plus games become a little more challenging and competitive.  Players develop fast during the ages of 13 to 18.

These age levels play in the FRQ Junior Rugby Leagues and will play either 15s or 7s rugby throughout the summer.  There is also opportunity for these ages to compete at the Provincial level and represent the club on the Quebec teams. Our U18s go on tour every two years (Wales, Ireland, California....)

Please contact our coaches if you have any questions. We're here to make sure that the kids have fun, are safe, and learn the game of rugby.
